The World Health Organization (WHO) says there is a big Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). This outbreak started on 15 May. Since then, there are 10 confirmed deaths and 223 suspected deaths. Now, more than 1,000 people are sick or suspected to be sick. This virus is very dangerous because many people die from it. Experts say between 30% and 50% of sick people die.

This specific virus is the Bundibugyo strain. It is difficult for doctors because there is no special medicine for this strain. Doctors can only help with the symptoms. The disease spreads when people touch the blood or body fluids of a sick person. You can also get it from the body fluids of a dead person. Often, people get the virus from wild animals first.

Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle pain, and a sore throat. Later, people may have stomach pain or vomiting. It is hard to stop the virus because there is a war in the area. Many armed groups fight in this region. This makes it difficult for medical teams to travel and help people. Many people are also moving from place to place because of the fighting.

The virus is also dangerous for doctors. At least five doctors and nurses died while helping patients. This is the 17th Ebola outbreak in the DRC. The WHO leader, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, asked for peace in the region. He wants the fighting to stop so doctors can work safely.
