In 2006, a man named Reidar Marstein found a leather shoe in the mountains of Norway. It was a very warm day in September. He took the shoe down the mountain and gave it to an archaeologist. The shoe was 3,400 years old. This discovery started a big project called "Norwayโs Secrets of the Ice."
The project is a team of experts. They go to the mountains in August and September. They look for old things in the ice. So far, they have found about 4,500 objects. These objects show us how people lived a long time ago. They found old wooden skis and a Viking arrow. They also found clothes, baskets, and tools.
The ice helps keep these things safe. Ice stays cold and has no oxygen, so wood and cloth do not rot. But there is a problem. The world is getting warmer because of climate change. The ice is melting very fast. When the ice melts, the old objects come out. Then, the weather can destroy them quickly.
The work is very difficult and dangerous. The scientists must climb mountains and walk on ice. Sometimes, rocks fall on them, or they fall into deep holes in the ice. They must work very fast to save the objects before they disappear forever.
The project won two awards for its great work. Today, many of these important objects are in a museum in Lom, Norway. Scientists can study them to learn about history.
