Archaeologists in Egypt have found an old city in the western desert. This city is from the Byzantine era. It is in the Dakhla oasis. The city has many streets that go north, south, east, and west. There are also open squares for people to meet. Researchers found a large church in the city. This shows that religion was very important. To stay safe, the people built two watchtowers. These towers protected the city from danger.

Experts also found small pieces of pottery at the site. These pieces have writing on them. The writing tells us about business and daily life. They also found gold coins. These coins are from the time of Emperor Constantius II, who ruled from 337 to 361. These items help us know exactly when the city was busy.

Near Alexandria, archaeologists found 18 old tombs. Some tombs are under the ground, and some are made of limestone. They found a large stone box called a sarcophagus. They also found a statue of a sphinx. One very special thing happened in these tombs. Researchers found gold pieces inside the mouths of some dead people. This is called "the golden tongue."
